In Reply to: Even if a diagnosis is made, every effort really should be made to control blood pressure with dietary management first instead of medications. posted by Patrick V. Suglia
I have just been prescribed medication for hypertension. The reading in my doctors surgery was 170/85. As my brother suffered a stroke some years ago I have been monitoring my blood pressure on a weekly basis at home and have never had an abnormal reading. I am concerned that my monitor is faulty but I have checked this with another one owned by a friend of mine and the readings are the same. I am too frightened not to take the medication but am also concerned that I may be taking medication unnecessarily.
