I am 57, have had a stressfull last 4/5 months, with business etc,I also have been drinking at least a bottle of wine a night, and haven't realy stopped for 40+ years.
I had my HSE medical this last july, which I passed, but noticed my bp was(I own a scuba centre, but do not teach any more)I have always been fit,but I was 148/90..we had some medicals to do last Saturday at our centre for new divers, and I though I would see what my pressure was..it was 162/90.I stopped drinking for 8 days for the first time ever. I have invested in a moniter, and have been getting wildly differant readings.
My pulse is never over 60, and averages 56, this has been my readings for the last couple of days.
7.00pm after work 162/82 2 feb.
7.40 am 152/73 3rd feb.
10.25 am 165/83
7.15pm 175/84 (pulse 54)
10.30 pm after 3 glasses of red wine and half a joint ..154/82!
4th feb.7.40 am 162/78 (pulse 56).
Now I know this is early days, I do keep reasonably fit, but can get stressed out.thats the way I have always been.
So, the question is ..should I go to my Drs, or should I try go down the "Heal thy self" route? with more excersise, swimming etc.
Things are starting to be less stressful at work, and we do have a couple of holidays coming up. I have descided to cut out drinking the way I used to, but I did notice a drop in pressure after wine and a quick smoke.
Food wise, I eat very well, never have a sleep problem, loads of salads, ovoid tea in the day, never drink daytimes,I eat more fish now , not much red meat.
5ft 9" tall and 11.st 8lbs. I have 6 children, 5 all grown up, butre married and started again, have a nearly 3 yearson, who I love to bits, more than my other children if I am Honest.my wife is 22 years younger than me, and I suppose with my 10 year old stepson, our house is very hectic, certainly first thing in the mornings getting kids off to school...so many people of my age have done with all that, I am back in there!
I could go on writing, but any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated before we think "DRUGS" Also...how big a part does stress play in altering BP? There is no history in my family of Heart problems. My Dad died @ 85 on that dreadfull day of Sept 11, and my mother died of Cancer of the womb 30 years ago.
