we talked her into bananas... Her blood pressure stayed normal

Dear Group,
Several years ago my Mom suffered from high blood pressure and took pills
for that. I was always telling her about the sodium content in the things
she ate and that she also didn't eat enough things that contained potassium.
She had to go to the hospital for emergency surgery and they had her on IV
for a long time and no BP meds. Her blood pressure went to normal. I told
her I felt it was because the IV carefully gave her the nutrients needed.
My Dad and I convinced her to eat appropriately. She hates orange juice so
we talked her into bananas, no salt from the shaker, no pizza or other boxed
process high sodium foods, etc. Her blood pressure, which we monitored
daily, stayed normal. Then, she did some pizzas, etc ... basically got off
her good diet and the BP soared. Finally she is convinced that her food
intake does make a difference and she is now controlling her BP without
meds. This is just one story but it convinces me that in some cases, food
intake makes a lot of difference.
