Around Christmas, my blood pressure was measured at 160/104,
which was an average of two measurements. I slowly started on the
program that I will describe below and one week later my naturopathic
doctor measured it once on both arms at 160/99. She was so alarmed
with this measurement that she said that I was getting into the area
of having to use drugs if I did not get it down. This alarmed me very
much. She said that I should "do meditation and you know the drill."
It was very flattering for her to say that to me, because I did know
the drill. Less than 2 months later, my blood pressure now hovers
around 120/80, and this is how I did it:
Everyday I did hatha yoga, tai chi, aerobics (walking and running up
and down hills for at least 30 minutes), affirmations for peacefulness
before falling asleep, acupressure, Coenzyme Q10, hawthorn, grapeseed
extract, anti-hypertensive Chinese tea, anti-pitta tea, Vitamin E,
multiple vitamins, essential fatty acids, weight loss of 10 lbs,
avoiding sour foods, etc. Doing this for several weeks got my blood
pressure down to 138/88. (Of course, you should understand that
everyone's blood pressure varies greatly daily and even hourly and
even by the minute. So the numbers I tell you are averages.) (Also,
not everything here is appropriate for everyone. Some people might
need to eat sour foods.) Then I went to an acupuncturist with 3000
hours of classroom instruction who had passed the national board
exams, i.e. a real acupuncturist. She did her thing and got my blood
pressure down to 120/80.
Taking responsibility for your health works. Drugs would have had
lots of unpleasant side affects. The side affects that I experience
with doing it the natural and responsible way is more energy, less
irritability, less anger, more sexual energy (not less), more
closeness with my family, and a wonderful sense of accomplishment.
