Regarding Hawthorn...

It dilates the coronary arteries, relieving cardiac hypoxaemia, thus
reducing the likelihood of anginal attacks and relieves symptoms. The
herb thus directly effects the cells of the cardiac muscle, enhancing
both activity and nutrition. It is quite different in activity to the
cardiac glycoside containing remedies. They impact the contractile
fibres, whilst Crataegus is involved in the availablity and utilisation
of energy. This facilitates a gentle but long term, sustained effect on
degenerative, age-related changes in the myocardium. It does not
produce rapid results but they are persistant once achieved.

Regarding Gingko...
Actions : Anti-inflammatory, vasoddilatory, relaxant, digestive bitter,
uterine stimulant.
Indications: Traditionally known as an anti-microbial & anti-tubercular
agent, new research has shown a profound activity on brain function and
cerebral circulation. Clinically it is proving effective in a range of
vascular disorders.

...deleted for selection to subject...

o arterial circulatory disturbances due to aging, diabetes and nicotine
abuse
o sclerosis of cerebral arteries with and without mental manifestations
o arteriosclerotic angiopathy of lower limbs o diabetic tissue damage
with danger of gangrene o chronic arterial obliteration o circulatory
disorders of the skin, as well as ulcerations caused by ischaemia.

...and listing other uses as well, many, having to do with the
circulatory system...

It is important to remember that all herbs are is *food*. Each one
specific to something (or *things*) and useful in others, as well,
with some being "helpers" to other nutrients, to find
their way where they are suppose to go (IOW, enhancers :)

Certainly, there are other herbs (besides the two listed above that are
good to use in the case of hbp (garlic being one of the best, as it is
a "regulator" in that it lowers, if it is high, raises, if it is
low...) as well, that are intended for other specifics... like cal
channel blockers... (some act the same as the meds. without the side
effects, if taken in their *whole* state). Others, are for those
situations dealing with cholesterol and the like... Herbs do "work
deeply and slowly and very well"! Patience is a virtue... remembering
that your situation didn't (usually) get where it is overnight, and it
isn't going to be *fixed* overnight. Without exception, changing the
'details' of your life (almost) *always* help.

BTW, the "cleaner" your system is, the faster herbs go to work! I
almost always meet with results, if I'm going to get them, in several
days to several weeks, (but it has taken me more than a few years to
get here)!

cheers,
wls
