Basically the argument was that insulin inducing foods, in particular "bread"
is the major culprit. It's not quite an all encompassing explanation for
hypertension as I thought at first, but YES, bread has been implicated in
hypertension because of the way the fatty acids are baked into the food --
creating some very un-natural chemicals, the gluten is not tolerated
by many because of the many types of allergies to it, and the starch is
VERY high GI and can ultimately cause hyperinsulinemia symptoms in some,
which can lead to overproduction of eicansanoids and etc which ultimately
causes blood pressure levels to hike.
Historically, from what I can make out, bread consumption as a staple food
is probably the number one cause of most health problems. Agricultural
peoples who started making bread as a staple food developed a whole host
of medical problems that were unknown to their hunter-gatherer counterparts.
Another culprit in hypertension is hyperactive adrenal glands: one cure as I
have discovered is to suppliment the diet with taurine, which inhibits the
epinephine secretions, and generally relaxes the body in general. Try
some Taurine suppliments. A gram or two two or three times a day.
My best advice as of this date for someone with hypertension is do an 8 week
trial in which all grain products are removed from the diet. If this works,
re-introduce them back one at a time to find a culprit.
It never hurts to take multi-mineral suppliments containing magnesium, and eat
lots of protien as well. Tofu and fish are good for you, and glucagon,
which is secreted in response to high amino acid concentrations in the blood
(breakdown products of protien digestion) has a naturally relaxing effect
on the arteries, and can lower high blood pressure.
