Cortisol and hypertension

Posted by Russ

I've been studying cortisol for a while with no satisfactory answers
yet. If you check PubMed there are some "anticortisol" substances, but their
effectiveness and side effects are not well documented. A guy in Las Vegas
makes some outlandish claims for his anticortisol treatments. I have no way
of knowing whether he is peddling snake oil or not.

I'm convinced that cortisol is involved in most hypertension. I have
found that if I force myself to exercise mildly, get enough sleep, relax,
meditate, and generally lower my stress levels, my blood pressure slowly
drops. Let me return to my workaholic normal state for a day and my BP
shoots back up and takes days to drop again. As the song says, be happy,
don't worry, . . . .
