"Portal Hypertension"

My father is affected by something called "Portal Hypertension" (I'm not
sure this is the rigth term; I'm translating litterally from my language),
wich causes internal hemorrhages. He had an hepatitis C in the past.
Can anybody give me informations about this desease in general, and about
how can it be cured?
