i don't doubt there are people who can be treated as these studies
suggest, but the hypertensives i communicate with, and i, do not share
these views. maybe we are a select group of special HTN caused by
something else, like diet. there does seem to be a lot of us. there are
over 65000 studies in medline dealing with some aspect of HTN. the
number alone indicates it's not a simple problem. my wife and i eat the
same diet for 40 yrs. she has high cholesterol ATF, and i have HTN.
obviouslt, her response to the diet was different than mine whetehr that
be genetic or not. the point is it doesn't make any difference whether
it's genes or not. it's still a proble to be solved.
since, 1992, i have been doing everything i can find to reduce BP, and
the only response i have found is due to an allergy to wheat. i don't
eat wheat anymore. i reduced the req't for meds, BUT i didn't cure the
HTN.
acupuncture, meditation, et al, maybe reduces the meds req'd in some
people for a short time but those "cures" are fleeting. they DON'T cure
HTN. weight reduction, salt restriction works in some people to lower
BP, but not in me. i reduced 33# - no response. i eat only fresh foods
to lower salt intake - no response.
i have been told that a vegetarian diet or a dash diet will cure the
problem. i now eat more fruits and vegetables than ever, AS AN
EXPERIMENT, because i have no confidence that they will work. the
response to veggies is a loss of 8# and no lowering of BP, but i'm still
hoping. my goal right now is to get rid of the dam Betablocker. then
i'll work on the cal blocker.
remember, doc, if ANYTHING worked, HTN wouldn't be a problem.
regards.
